Privacy

Ferna is a small side project, made by one person. This page explains, in plain terms, how it handles your data.

There's no account and no sign-in, and no personal details to hand over to use it.

Your data is kept on your phone

What you put into Ferna is stored on your phone. That includes:

  • Every entry: its note, amount, and date.
  • Your monthly budgets and repeating payments.
  • Receipt photos you scan, and the text read from them.
  • Reminder times, settings, and preferences.

There's no Ferna account to sync to, so your log stays on your phone rather than being tied to an account.

No ads, no selling your data

Ferna doesn't show ads, and it doesn't sell your data or share it with advertisers.

Features your phone provides

Some features (reading your note, dictation, and receipt scanning) use capabilities built into your phone. When you use the microphone, the camera, or notifications, those are handled by your phone's operating system and follow its own rules.

Removing your data

Deleting an entry removes it. Uninstalling the app clears its data from the phone.

If you back your device up to iCloud or a computer, copies of the app's data may still exist in those backups, which is outside the app's control. You can also export your own copy to CSV at any time.

If this ever changes

Ferna may change over time. If a future version sends anything off your device, this page will be updated to explain what and why before that version ships.

Updates to this page

This page may change as the app changes. The “Last updated” date at the top is the most recent revision.
